A radiological exam is designed to image--or see inside--a specific area of your body for the purpose of diagnosis. SDMI offers several different types of imaging exams, including MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), Open MRI, Computed Tomography (CT), Ultrasound, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine, Fluoroscopy, Conventional Radiography (x-ray), Heart CT, and more.
Each type of imaging exam has its own guidelines, which you may read about in this web site. Special instructions for your exam will be given at the time of scheduling. For certain procedures, a SDMI representative will contact you 24-48 hours prior to your exam with preparation instructions. In addition, a SDMI representative may call you with instructions on diet, medication use, and other self-care needs associated with your exam.
SDMI is an ACR accredited facility
You can rest assured that we meet the standards for radiation safety and image quality.

Interventional Radiology or sometimes referred to as, Special Procedures, is a medical specialty that uses image-guided, minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic techniques that, in some cases, are an alternative to conventional surgery. Interventional radiology procedures often involve the use of small catheters (tubes) or other devices, inserted through the skin via a very small incision or needle puncture, and guided by radiologic imaging methods. Interventional radiology procedures are less costly and traumatic to the patient than traditional surgery, and typically result in shorter recovery times. These procedures are performed by specialty trained radiologist and assisted by highly skilled technologists. |

Computed Axial Tomography ("CT" or "CAT" scan) is a way of looking inside your body using a special camera. The images (or pictures) produced are cross - sectional, like the slices in a loaf of bread. During a CT exam the scanner takes multiple cross-sectional pictures of you. These pictures are created with the help of a computer and are capable of depicting various internal body parts in much greater detail than standard X-Ray films. This greatly enhances the doctor's ability to diagnose a medical condition. |

Dexascan is used to diagnose osteoporosis on men and women with the following particular risk factors; Female Caucasian Advanced age History of bone fracture, a small thin frame, a family history of osteoporosis, removal of the ovaries, early menopause, a low calcium diet, lack of exercise, eating disorders, certain medicines (such as steroids or anticonvulsants), alcohol and tobacco |

Fluoroscopy is a technique for obtaining "live" X-Ray images of a living patient. It is often used to observe the digestive tract (Upper GI series - Barium Swallow, Lower GI series - Barium Enema or "BE"). |

A digital mammogram is a special X-Ray of the breast. It is a radiological procedure available to detect small cancers long before they can be felt by you or your doctor. As the X-Rays pass through the breast tissue, an actual picture of the tissue inside is obtained. This image allows the radiologist to determine whether or not cancer is present. |

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI or MR) is one of the safest, most comfortable imaging techniques available. It combines a powerful magnet with an advanced computer system and radio waves to produce accurate, detailed pictures of organs and tissues in order to diagnose a variety of medical conditions |

Nuclear Medicine is a branch of radiology that uses radioactive materials to determine if certain organs such as the heart, kidneys, liver, thyroid, brain and lungs are working properly. It is also used to examine the bones for cancer, infection or trauma. |

Once a lump or abnormality has been detected, your doctor may want to conduct a biopsy. This procedure involves taking sample tissue from the suspicious area to determine whether it is cancerous. Stereotactic Breast Biopsy is a nonsurgical procedure completed on an outpatient basis with a minimum of discomfort and recovery time. |

The X-Ray has been called one of the most significant advances in all of medical history. It is used in many different ways in medical diagnosis. An x-ray image is produced when a small amount of radiation passes through the body and strikes a sheet of sensitive film placed on the other side of the body |

Your veins carry blood from the capillaries to the heart. In your leg, this means the blood has to flow upward, against gravity. Consequently, these veins have one-way valves to prevent the blood from backflowing. |
