March 21 ,2019 (Las Vegas, Nev.) --- For three decades, SDMI has pioneered new technology with the goal of fulfilling its mission of providing exceptional patient experiences and care. Now SDMI is rolling out the latest advancements in 3D mammography by placing the Senographe Pristina mammography system by GE in all eight of its Southern Nevada locations. The Senographe Pristina mammography system was designed by a team of women to provide a more comfortable experience for the patient. Introduced in Mar. 2017, the Pristina features a range of ergonomic features that are intentionally designed to enable patients to be more comfortable. All parts in contact with the patient's breasts, for example, have gentle, rounded corners for greater comfort. The system features comfortable armrests that relax the pectoral muscles to simplify positioning, compression and image acquisition. Also, the Senographe Pristina provides exceptional images with no additional radiation exposure to patients while providing sharp and detailed pictures for breast cancer detection and diagnosis.“Perhaps the single most important advancement in medical imaging to benefit women is happening right now. Tomosynthesis, or 3D mammography, has revolutionized how we read mammograms. I have been so fortunate to witness these tremendous changes and I am so excited and proud to help bring this new life-saving technology of the Senographe Pristina mammography system by GE to women in Las Vegas,” explains Dr. Aanshu Shah, Director of Women’s Imaging at SDMI.In 2014, a study by the Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR) reported 46% of women do not schedule their annual mammograms. Other studies have found that painful exams are a major reason why some women fail to return for further breast imaging. GE Healthcare determined that effective pain-reducing interventions in mammography are needed to encourage more women to come in for a screening. “Unfortunately, there are so many misconceptions about getting a mammogram,” said Dr. Shah. “But technology has advanced so much in the past few years. The Pristina was designed to make the experience as comfortable for the patient as possible. If the patient has a more positive experience, they are going to be more likely to come back and have their annual mammogram. And if they come back every year, the more likely it is I will be able to find their breast cancer early when it’s the most treatable and curable.”About Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging Centers:In 1958, Dr. Leon Steinberg came to Las Vegas to help Sunrise Hospital build the first radiology center in Southern Nevada.
