STEINBERG DIAGNOSTIC MEDICAL IMAGING (SDMI) WELCOMES DOCTOR’S ANDREW TEH AND TRAVIS SMITH

(Las Vegas, NV) – SDMI proudly welcomes 2 new radiologists to the practice. Dr. Andrew Teh subspecializing in Neuroradiology joins SDMI as a graduate of local Tuoro University finishing his Residency and Internship at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and Fellowship at UC Davis.Dr. Travis Smith worked to complete several sub-specialties including; Body Imaging, Cross Sectional Interventional, Nuclear Medicine and Cardiovascular radiology. Dr. Smith completed Medical School and his Internship at Georgetown University before residency at Hartford Hospital, he also completed his fellowship at UC Davis.SDMI caught up with the 2 newest members of the radiology team to find out a little more about their background, what they hope to bring to the Las Vegas valley, and why they joined the SDMI family.WHY DID YOU CHOOSE RADIOLOGY?Teh: Anatomy was my favorite subject in medical school which helped me decide that diagnostic radiology would be the most effective way I can help patients.Smith: Radiology has always fascinated me. I knew I wanted to be in a field that had an impact in every part of modern medicine. I like being in a specialty where what I find and diagnose on imaging can have a critical impact on a patient's care.WHY DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR SUB-SPECIALTY?Teh: I knew I wanted to sub-specialize in a field that utilized advanced cross-sectional imaging, mainly MRI. Also, I found head and neck anatomy challenging in medical school and wanted to pursue the additional training to further shore up my knowledge in that area.Smith: I had so much trouble choosing a sub-specialty that I chose several! I didn't want to lose all interactions with patients, and I love image guided procedures, so I practiced interventional radiology in fellowship. I was fascinated by the future of nuclear medicine and theranostics, so I spent a lot of time focusing on nuclear medicine as well. And body imaging, especially with MRI, has evolved and continues to evolve into a critical tool for diagnoses in addition to more traditional ultrasound and CT imaging.WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO JOIN THE SDMI FAMILY?Teh: Having grown up in Las Vegas I started the search for my first job here. After meeting the SDMI team I knew this would be the best fit for me!Smith: I have a family connection to Las Vegas, and always knew I would end up working here when I finished training. When I interviewed at SDMI, every physician, technologist, and employee was so upbeat and happy; everyone seems to absolutely love working here. I did not get that vibe from every place I interviewed, and it really stood out. Also, the turnover rate for physicians is low, further solidifying how much every radiologist enjoys the practice.HOW DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IMPACTING HEALTHCARE IN LAS VEGAS?Teh: I want to bring my training and skill set in the field of neuroradiology to Las Vegas, and hope that I can give back to the community that I grew up in.Smith: Given its history and founder, SDMI has a direct connection to the people of Las Vegas. With my multiple specialties, and the amazing SDMI staff around me, I hope to provide excellent diagnostic and interventional radiologic care to this wonderful community for decades to come. I hope my bicoastal training can bring a fresh perspective, and I hope to expand theranostic care in the community as new nuclear medicine treatments are approved.WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT BEING A DOCTOR?Teh: The privilege of being able to take care of other people and making a difference in other's lives.Smith: Training to become a doctor is grueling and difficult. What got me through medical school, internship, residency, and fellowship is my favorite part about being a doctor; I get to apply these hard-learned skills to try to make my patients and community healthier and happier.
