Oct. 26, 2018 (Las Vegas, Nev.) --- Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging’s Dr. Mark Winkler was honored by Las Vegas HEALS (Health, Education, Advocacy and Leadership of Southern Nevada), a nonprofit membership-based healthcare association, as part of the 7th Annual “Inspired Excellence in Healthcare Awards (Learn More).” Inspired by the pioneer exploits of Dr. Royce W. Martin, Las Vegas’ first chief surgeon, circa 1905, the awards ceremony recognizes healthcare leaders who have set a higher standard for the healthcare community in Southern Nevada.Dr. Winkler, one of the founding partners of Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging (SDMI), has continually sought and secured cutting-edge technology and equipment for SDMI, ensuring the practice’s evolution as one of the most prestigious and innovative out-patient radiology firms in the country.Dr. David Steinberg, managing partner of SDMI, says of Dr. Winkler, “As we celebrate our 30-year anniversary at SDMI I cannot think of a better person to be honored with an Inspired Excellence in Healthcare Award. Mark inspires me, is my brother and my friend and deserves this honor.”Dr. Winkler’s education is impressive and includes studies at University of California, San Francisco; Brown University; and Stanford. He is sub-specialized in Neuroradiology and has authored countless papers, presenting to thousands at industry conventions, universities and more. Through the years, he tirelessly worked on improving MRI sequencing with each generation of scanners and is sought after by companies, including Canon Medica, to consult on MRI systems. He has contributed to the design and continuous improvement of both the Canon Medical Celesteion PET/CT scanners and Toshiba and Canon CT Scanners. His focus is always on keeping radiation as low as possible for patients, developing sequences that are now considered best practices. These unique partnerships have allowed SDMI and Las Vegas to consistently enjoy access to top-of-the-line equipment, and often as the nation’s first location to install new equipment and serving as a demonstration site for the rest of the country. When asked about his experience working with Dr. Winkler, Gordon Parhar, formerly with Toshiba America Medical Systems and now with Hitachi Medical, had this to say:I first met Dr. Mark Winkler back in 2004 when I was working as the Ultrasound Business Unit Director for Toshiba America Medical Systems. To successfully do my job and grow Toshiba’s USA ultrasound market-share, I needed to partner with a respected subject-matter-expert radiologist who had previous experience working with commercial vendors. Dr. Mark Winkler was an ideal collaboration partner who ultimately agreed to work with me and my staff. I worked for Toshiba for five years, and during that time, he and his staff were instrumental in providing timely inputs which were subsequently implemented and productized, immensely improving Toshiba’s scanner which led to its ultimate commercial success.I now work for Hitachi Healthcare and find myself in a similar situation. I reached out to him and, even though I remained only loosely in touch with Mark over the years after leaving Toshiba, he graciously agreed to evaluate Hitachi’s scanner. Together, with his sonographer, they both provided Hitachi with important actionable feedback which will be used for product improvement.”###About Las Vegas HEALSFounded in 2002, Las Vegas HEALS (Health, Education, Advocacy, and Leadership in Southern Nevada) is a nonprofit, membership-based association whose mission is to foster strategic alliances in the healthcare community, collaborating on workforce issues, and being a proactive force for legislative initiatives to improve access and the delivery of quality healthcare.
