Protecting Your Health Information: An Added Layer of Security for the SDMI Patient Portal

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and at Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging (SDMI), protecting our patients goes beyond providing high-quality diagnostic imaging. It also means safeguarding the personal health information you trust us with.

As part of our ongoing commitment to patient safety and data security, we are introducing an additional layer of protection to the SDMI Patient Portal through Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).

What Is Multi-Factor Authentication?

Multi-Factor Authentication, commonly referred to as MFA, is a security measure that requires an additional step to verify your identity when accessing an online account.

With this update, patients accessing the SDMI Patient Portal will be required to verify their identity using a one-time security passcode sent to their email address or cell phone number.

This added step helps ensure that even if someone obtains your login credentials, they cannot easily access your personal health information without completing the additional verification.

What Does This Mean for Patients?

When logging into the SDMI Patient Portal, patients will now be prompted to complete an additional verification step:

  1. Enter your usual Patient Portal login credentials.
  1. Check your email or cell phone for a one-time security passcode verification code.
  1. Enter the code when prompted to securely access your account.

‍

It's a simple extra step that provides an important additional layer of protection.

Helpful Tip: Make sure you have access to the email address or cell phone number associated with your Patient Portal account. Never share your verification code with anyone.

Cybersecurity Is Part of Patient Safety!

Cybersecurity Awareness Month serves as an important reminder that protecting sensitive information is everyone's responsibility.

At SDMI, Patient Safety is one of our core values, and that commitment extends to protecting your personal health information (PHI). From the moment you schedule an appointment to the time you access your imaging results, safeguarding your information remains a priority.

By strengthening the security of our Patient Portal, we're taking another step toward ensuring your healthcare information stays where it belongs: in your hands.

Your Health. Your Information. Our Commitment.

We understand that adding another step to the login process may take a few extra moments, but those moments help protect what matters most: your privacy and peace of mind.

This Cybersecurity Awareness Month, we encourage everyone to take an active role in protecting their digital information by using strong passwords, recognizing suspicious emails, and embracing additional security measures like MFA.

At SDMI, we're committed to keeping your health information as safe as the patients we serve.
