Sometimes we can go about our lives just trying to survive the day. Understandably so, it is difficult to look past our personal burdens to take the time to consider the greater struggles of others. Especially those far away, whose faces we’ll never see.The Global Health Workforce Alliance (GHWA) is an organization with a vision that “All people everywhere will have access to a skilled, motivated and supported health worker, within a robust health system.” They produced the video above to spread the word about the shortage of health workers around the world. On their website, GHWA reports an estimation of “a global shortage of 7.2 million health workers, with 83 countries facing a health worker crisis.”Imagine your child with a broken arm and no physician to visit, no MRI machine to help diagnose for treatment. Even more basic a need, imagine exposure to some of the most deadliest diseases in the world and being without the vaccinations needed to have a fighting chance at life. These are tragic realities faced by many every day.We are grateful for the healthcare system in Nevada that gives us hospitals where we can seek treatment, rehab centers to help us get back on our feet, and the technicians, nurses, and physicians who deliver that care. Let us remind ourselves that we are lucky to live where a healthcare system is in place to meet our needs.
