Born in Warsaw, Poland, Dr. Leon Steinberg emigrated to the United States in 1938. Only five years later, he become a naturalized US citizen. After graduating from high school in Chicago, he went on to serve in the United States Air Force. He stayed with the military for two years. Steinberg attended college at the University of Illinois where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in 1950. He was awarded with the highest honors in chemistry. His education continued at the same university. He received his medical degree in 1954. This is when Steinberg decided to pursue radiology.Steinberg founded the Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center’s department of radiology. He was the director from 1958 through 1971. During this time, he pursued other career options. A private radiology office opened in 1966. John Pretto and Murton Strimling were his partners in the business. His career continued to advance in 1975 when he became the co-director of the department of radiology at Valley Hospital Medical Center. He stayed at Valley until 1984.Steinberg partnered with his son, David Steinberg, and Mark Winkler in 1988. The first Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging Center opened its doors that February. The business has been very successful. There are now six locations in Las Vegas.Steinberg also helps in the community. He is on the board of directors at Temple Beth Shalom. He also sits on the board of directors for the Jewish Federations’s Campaign and the Nevada National Bank.Steinberg has been with his wife, Faye, for nearly 60 years now. Together they have five children and nine grandchildren. His hobbies include traveling, fishing and spending time with his family.Steinberg Diagnostic Imaging Center has since grown so successful, there are plans to open up a seventh location.
