2014 is the fourth annual Family Owned Business Awards. Nevada Business Magazine received hundreds of nominations for this year’s awards. There were 60 finalists chosen in the state. Only 20 winners were chosen for an award.This year’s finalists are all hard working families. Some have been in Nevada for many generations. Each family opened their business in Nevada believing that the future will be bright.Nevada Business Magazine thanks all Nevada family-owned businesses. The winners from northern Nevada were Critical Tattoo, Design and Edge, and Great Full Gardens. The winners from southern Nevada were Barroso & Sons LLC, Power House Plastering, and the Funnel Cake Café.The Don’t Forget to Share Award goes to the family-owned businesses that give back to the community. The winners from northern Nevada were Adele’s Restaurant & Lounge, The Abbi Agency, The Medical Profession, LLC. The winners from southern Nevada were Academy of Hair Design, Tuxedo Junction, and Windermere Real Estate.When the Going Gets Tough Award goes to the businesses that had to make changes to adapt to financial hardships. The winners from northern Nevada were Arbors Memory Care Community, Branded Screen Printing, and Vineburg Machining Inc. The winners from southern Nevada were Firefly Tapas Kitchen & Bar, Great Buns Bakery, and Las Vegas Boat Harbor.The Protector Award goes to the businesses that have increased their efforts to be green. The winners from northern Nevada were 1-800-Got-Junk?, Green Clean, and Little Smudgeez. The winners from southern Nevada were Lightning and Electronic Design Inc., Tiffany Couture Cleaners, and Yellow Checker Star Transportation.The Swimming-Upstream award goes to the businesses that are owned by women or a minority. The winners from northern Nevada were CES Machine Products Inc., Comma Coffee, and Nevada Barricade & Sign Co. Inc. The winners from southern Nevada were Jadon Foods, Lazer Ladies Gifts and Awards, and Sun Commercial Real Estate, Inc.It’s Good to be on Top Award goes to the most successful family-owned businesses. The winners from northern Nevada were In1Spot Photography, Kimmie Candy Company, and The CartBarn. The winners from southern Nevada were London Medical Management, Inc., Retro Bakery, and Steinberg Law Group.The Wave of the Future Award goes to the businesses that have made the most of new technology. The winners from northern Nevada were OnStrategy, Skybox Cloud LLC, and the Caregiver’s Journal. The winners from southern Nevada were LasVegasFurnitureOnline.com, Service 1st Energy Solutions, and Sting Alarm Inc.The Change is Good Award goes to the businesses that have moved onto its second generation. The winners from northern Nevada were ABC Heating & Sheet Metal, Clark & Associates of Nevada Inc., and Menezes Brothers, Inc. The winners from Southern Nevada were Griddlecakes, Southern Nevada Pest Control, and Sportco Sporting Goods.The Wisdom of Age award goes to the businesses that have been around for over 25 years. The winners from northern Nevada were Bath Lumber Company, Fallon Auto Mall, and Nevada Insurance Agency Company. The winners from southern Nevada were Gaudin Ford, Manpower Inc. of Southern Nevada, and the Papillon Group.The More the Merrier Award goes to the family-owned businesses with more than 50 employees. The winners from northern Nevada were A&K Earth Movers, Inc., Haws Corporation, and Nature’s Bakery. The winners from southern Nevada were Jerry’s Nugget Casino, The D Las Vegas, and Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging Center. Founded by Dr. Leon Steinberg, the company is now being run by his son Dr. David Steinberg. The practice has grown dramatically and expects to open a new location soon.
